Space rock Florence, a substantial close Earth space rock, will pass securely by Earth on Sept. 1, 2017, at a separation of around 4.4 million miles, (7.0 million kilometers, or around 18 Earth-Moon separations). Florence is among the biggest close Earth space rocks that are a few miles in estimate; estimations from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope and NEOWISE mission show it’s around 2.7 miles (4.4 kilometers) in measure.

“While many known space rocks have gone by nearer to Earth than Florence will on September 1, those were assessed to be littler,” said Paul Chodas, director of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) at the organization’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

“Florence is the biggest space rock to go by our planet this nearby since the NASA program to identify and track close Earth space rocks started.”
